How E-Cig Prohibitionists Use Nicotine As A Pawn
By now everyone in the electronic cigarette community must have heard something bad that is being said about nicotine by those who want to see the end of e-cigs. Nicotine, as well as kids, is the card that these people seem to fall back on each time they run out of fabrications to make against e-liquids and e-cigarettes.
Ever since electronic cigarettes were debuted on the market, prohibitionists have had a lot to say about nicotine e-juice. They are so hell-bent on using nicotine in their fight that they even see no problem in contradicting themselves. Consider the evolution of their arguments in the following discussion.
In the beginning when Big Tobacco had just seen the new product, they scoffed at it and thought it was just a fad that would pass in a very short time so that people puff away at their analogs undisturbed, as the profits roll into their pockets.
As the “fad” refused to go away, tobacco cheerleaders started cracking jokes saying e-cigs were a silly excuse for a nicotine delivery method. Prohibitionists joined in and said the new devices could not be a serious alternative to tobacco cigarettes because they could not deliver enough nicotine to satisfy the craving of those addicted to ordinary cigarettes.
The argument then was that electronic cigarettes were so poor at nicotine delivery that the authorities needn’t waste any time on them. Instead, regulators were called upon to simply kick them off the market.
Fast forward to the current nicotine song being performed by prohibitionists. They are now arguing that electronic cigarettes with e-liquids are very dangerous, probably more dangerous than tobacco cigarettes, because they deliver way too much nicotine in comparison to their tobacco counterparts.
So, what has changed to bring about this change of heart? Today, there is a growing body of irrefutable scientific research pointing to the numerous benefits that e-liquids have in reducing the harm that tobacco cigarettes unleash on their addicts. It is generally agreed that e-cigs are 99% safer than analogs and major public health advantages have been documented among vapers.
As the value that e-cigs bring to their users and bystanders comes to light, the tobacco industry is feeling threatened so in a bid to fight for the market they have dominated for so long, they have resorted to any straw they can clutch at to discredit all e-juices with e-cigs. Turning their original nicotine argument on its head is the last ditch effort that they think will stop the electronic cigarette express from crashing them into financial ruin due to rapidly dwindling sales.
That is why the chorus on e-liquids has changed from “not enough nicotine” to “too much nicotine”. Nicotine has to them become a pawn that they can use in any way they deem fit, without bothering to ensure they do not contradict statements they have made at different times.
The way matters now stand, it seems nicotine can be both too much and too little, depending on the point one would like to drive home. Where is the truth in this shifting of goal posts?
