Safety measures when using e-ciggies
There is an increased number of people choosing to “vape”, and even smokers switching to the comparatively healthier option. E-cigarettes are becoming a rage. The expanse can be gauged with the industry turning into an almost USD 2 billion sector. While the variety of flavors and the colors of the device can be enthralling, there are safety measures that need to be kept in mind at all times to avert any mishaps. E-liquids with varying amounts of nicotine are available for grabs in the market today. It has been noted that some liquid refills may have high amounts of nicotine.
Nicotine found in e-cigarettes and even their traditional counterparts is very similar to the nicotine found in caffeine. Research has proved that nicotine consumption in moderation is not bad. But as is said, too much, or too little of anything can cause harm. Everything is moderation is rightly said, and applies to e-cigarettes as well.
E-liquids are basically highly concentrated nicotine solutions which can be hazardous to children and even the uninitiated. Consider the fact that a 30ml bottle of e-liquid may contain nicotine equivalent to a 100 cigarettes.
E-liquids are available in various delicious and yummy flavors; say for example, bubblegum, watermelon, mango, strawberry etc. Not only are these e-liquids flavored, they are also colored accordingly. When a child sees you refilling your shiny, colorful device, your e-cigarette, with a colorful, delicious smelling liquid, it can be very appealing, drawing their curiosity.
The high levels of nicotine in these e-liquids can cause a drug overdose if ingested or absorbed through the skin. This can lead to nausea, vomiting, and sometime even seizures, if the amount consumed is large. It is thus important to keep these 3 things in mind, at all times, while vaping and after to avoid any mishaps:
- You must always protect your skin while handling e-cigarettes and products related to it. There have been cases where adults have reported severe rashes, irritation and vomiting when the e-liquid was accidently absorbed through the skin.
- Always, ALWAYS keep e-cigarettes and e-liquids locked and away from children. A lot of e-cigarette users do not know the risks involved or choose to ignore the safety measures. Many parents reported they did not realize the toxicity of the liquid till their kids started vomiting on consumption. Consider this, for children, one lick of the e-liquid can make then sick, and 1 teaspoon can be fatal. Children who have been accidentally subject to the e-liquid show severe signs of nicotine withdrawal. It is hence strongly advised that E-CIGARETTES AND E-LIQUIDS BE KEPT LOCKED AND AWAY FROM CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES.
- Follow instructions: manufacturers and e-liquid producers offer a set of instruction that need to be followed strictly. Be it refilling you e-device or storing the cigarettes and liquid, or disposing off. The instruction must be followed to the word.
Safety is always better than prevention, and it is any day better to be cautious than repentant.
